Long Time No See

Hey guys!

Wow it really has been awhile, huh?
I am going to try to pick this blog back up. I’ve been getting lots of emails and comments from this blog. I think I can truly help people if I keep this up.
So what’s new in my world?
LOTS OF ALLERGIES.

On a lighter note, I am in a relationship now. My boyfriend has been so overly supportive. I’ve had lots of people wondering how to tell your SO/potential lover about EoE. I say, be open. My boyfriend knew about it the first night I met him, before we even started dating. You don’t want to hide it. You have to be open, especially if you’re looking for someone to spend the rest of your life with. They have to know what to expect and be willing to work with you, and help support you. He’s helped find foods I didn’t even know I could have. I’m very lucky to have him and I hope you all have the support that I do.

Also, I started a new job! (Well it’s not so new anymore hehe)
I am now a Nutritionist at WIC (Women, Infants, and Children). I have absolutely loved it. I love watching the kids grow and make changes that I’ve helped set. I also help lots of kids with food allergies.

Now, to the allergies…
In December, I went back for allergy testing.

And it was not fun. I reacted to 29 foods.

Does that mean I have to cut them all out completely? Not necessarily…

See how some of those are more red and larger than others? Those ones I labeled I’ve had to cut out completely.
These include: Milk, peanuts, peas, pistachio, coconut, and salmon.
I also severely limit these: Eggs, soy, corn, beef, almonds (negative this time but was positive last time), hazelnut, pecan, sesame seeds, cantaloupe, oranges, peaches, watermelon, ginger, malt, crab, lobster, shrimp, potatoes (white and sweet), and perch.
For me (may not be the same for you or your child), the ones I reacted to less I can have in small amounts. For instance, if I were to have corn, I may have a slight burning. If I were to have corn for lunch and dinner days in a row, I’d have a full blown EoE reaction.
How do I monitor this? I try to do a rotation diet (and sometimes fail). I try not to eat the same foods frequently. If I had potatoes one day, I will avoid them for a few days. Usually when I make a big meal (I am just cooking for one-two), I leave one serving in the fridge and put the rest in the freezer. So yeah, I’m trying out the whole freezer meal trend. It’s more difficult than I thought.
